Our vision is to create a world class PE environment, through the Kibworth standards, that enables ALL students to enjoy their experiences in Physical Education, make outstanding progress and to have a thirst for lifelong participation in physical activity.
The PE curriculum at Kibworth is designed around a range of key factors.
Firstly, it is focuses on the Department for Education’s National Curriculum aims for physical education at key stages 3 and 4:
There are then two further key elements to our curriculum: Core PE and Exam PE. Exam PE is then split into GCSE PE and Cambridge Nationals Sports Studies.
Our programme of study seeks to employ a variety of activities throughout the key stages to deliver the above national curriculum aims. In Key Stage Three students will perform skills in a broad range of individual and team activities, as well as learning knowledge of rules and tactics. This will occur in 3 stages: Y7 Developing Skills & Knowledge, Y8 Securing Skills & Knowledge, Y9 Mastering Skills & Knowledge. For example, when studying football, a Y7 student will develop passing, dribbling and shooting skills, a Y8 student will be securing these fundamental skills and in Y9 they will master these skills, along with understanding rules and tactics. In Y10 we seek to develop leadership through the Sport Education Model, and in Y11 the core curriculum focuses on physical and mental health.
The PE department offers two excellent courses for students wishing to opt into exam PE during key stage four.
GCSE PE will open students’ eyes to the amazing world of sports performance. Students will have the chance to perform in three different sports through the non-exam assessment component (30%), as well as developing wide ranging knowledge into the how and why of physical activity and sport through theoretical lessons (70%). The combination of the physical performance and academic challenge provides an exciting opportunity for our students.
Cambridge Nationals Sports Studies offers students the chance to develop different types of skills through largely practical means: communication, problem solving, team working, evaluation, performing under pressure and formulating written findings from practical investigation are all transferable skills which can be learned and assessed through this qualification and utilised in many other educational and employment settings.
